Put Down the Harpoon (2020)

Larry Lombardi’s "Put Down the Harpoon" uses Captain Ahab’s obsession to characterize "Economic Hunting" as a high-stakes gamble in chasing corporate "whales" like an Amazon or Google.

He suggests that instead of banking on a low-probability "jackpots," the most resilient growth comes from investing in the businesses already rooted in your backyard.

As an alternative to that idea, it was pioneered in Littleton, Colorado, by Chris Gibbons after the community lost a major employer in the 1980s.

The idea was while local retail circulates existing money, Gibbons promoted that home-grown Stage Two "faucets" (Company's) pour fresh wealth into the community "bathtub" from outside markets.
